Local Yom HaZikaron & Yom Ha'atzmaut Gatherings

I think it took me longer to recover from Passover than I thought it would, and I missed the chance to share information about Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Memorial Day. We can always make time to honor the memory of the Holocaust, though. Did you know that there’s a local memorial in New Haven’s Edgewood Park at the corner of Whalley Avenue and West Park Avenue. It was the country’s first Holocaust memorial.

Now, for memorial days and celebrations I haven’t missed yet. On Tuesday, May 7, Israeli emissaries Noa and Ziv will host a singalong at the JCC from 6.30 to 9 PM following a ceremony to remember soldiers and victims of terrorism. If you haven’t met Noa and Ziv yet (or even if you have), I recommend you attend.

To celebrate Israel’s Independence Day, on Thursday, May 9, the JCC will host an Israeli-style barbecue event from 5.30 - 7.30 called Mangal and Mingle.

Please chime in with other Yom HaZikaron or Yom Ha’atzmaut events you know about that I haven’t mentioned. Hope to see you at one of them! -Julie Katz
